Day 27 - July 3, Canyon Village to Pahaska Tepee, 45 miles

We started today heading directly south to Yellowstone Lake.  We stopped at Hayden Valley where bison come for calving each year.  We saw a couple of cow and calve pairs across the valley. Again the traffic was much lighter than expected. We stopped at Fishing Bridge and saw the Yellowstone cutthroat trout in the river.   Off to the East Entrance which we had never seen before.  The views of Yellowstone Lake from the east entrance road (US 14/16/20) were worth the effort of the climb.  We climbed two passes on the way to the east entrance, one unnamed at 8600 feet, our high point of the trip so far, and one named Sylvan Pass at 8500 feet.  Then the real excitement of the day - the descent from Sylvan pass.  Wow !  An 8% drop over much of the final 7 miles to the east entrance.  Leaving the park you are suppose to slow down to 15 mph - let’s just say they didn’t come after us!

Staying at Pahaska Tepee cabins tonight - no tent camping allowed here due to the bears
